One November day in 1974, President
He dropped in at a press workshop, where operators were quickly making products with big and small presses assiduously. Looking at them for a good while, he had a shadow pass over his face. Then, he cupped his mouth in his hands and whispered in the ear of one of officials that the roar of the machines would be very harmful to the workers’ health.
Having thought for a while, he said that they should silence the noise and taught how to cover both sides of a press by gesticulation. Only then did the officials come to understand why he had a shadow pass over his face.
After a while he turned to a coating workshop he had already passed by, and moved slowly. Out of the workplace, he took a few steps before stopping again to listen to the press sounds. Then he stressed that if a glass door covered the entrance to the press workshop well, it would be able to prevent the noise from spreading to other workshops, and that the door had to be fixed well so as to check the noise. Mentioning that the door had to be installed to check the passage between the coating workshop and the press workshop without giving the impression that the passage was blocked, he taught in detail how to make the devices to silence the press sounds.
Thus a glass wall appeared between the two workshops, and the workers became free from the noise.
