Guideline on Socialist Rural Question​

 

February 25 is a meaningful day when President Kim Il Sung made public his famous work "Theses on the Socialist Rural Question in Our Country".

The publication of the theses was a historic event of great significance in developing the Korean revolution.

At that time, successes were being made as a result of the transformation of the rural economy on socialist lines. However, the centuries-long feudal backwardness and poverty were not yet completely eliminated, the material foundations of the countryside were inadequate and the living standards of peasants were not high. In other words, there still remained the differences between industry and agriculture and between the working class and the peasantry and the distinctions between towns and the countryside.

While giving field guidance to various farms across the country, President Kim Il Sung acquainted himself in detail with the actual situation of the country's agriculture and comprehensively intensified the study of the rural question, thus solving one by one the theoretical and practical issues for the final solution of the question.

On this basis, he made public the above-said famous work indicating the way of socialist rural construction at the 8th Plenary Meeting of the 4th Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea in February Juche 53 (1964).

In the theses he clarified in a comprehensive way the essence of the socialist rural question, the lawful requirements of socialist rural construction, the basic principles and tasks for socialist rural construction and the approaches to implementing them.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, who is translating the desires of President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il into reality, set forth a new programme for revolutionizing the rural areas with which to usher in a great new era of making a rapid development of the socialist countryside by powerfully hastening the rural development, and has wisely led the struggle to implement it.

Thanks to his wise leadership, the material and technical foundations of the agricultural sector are being consolidated, modern houses with regional peculiarities, large-scale greenhouse farms and other model entities representing the new era of socialist rural development are being built in all parts of the country.
